Comedy is subjective.

Comedy is subjective.

Do you agree or disagree. A friend had this to say regarding what constitutes the best comedy:
If laughter is truly the best medicine, then anyone who sees Ellen DeGeneres doing a stand-up routine must feel mighty healthy. As someone who’s seen her perform twice, I can attest to the positive power of cracking up at one of the country’s best comedians, who manages to consistently provide her hilarious viewpoints to people from all walks of life.

Unlike some popular comics, Ellen doesn’t need profanity or controversial material to make an audience roar with laughter. Her eye for the most obvious of daily activities and flair for seeing the humor in the smallest things in life defines her persona, both on stage, and on her popular talk show.

She’s done riffs on the tiny peanuts offered on airlines. She’s described how disgusting a drink might taste, but if offered to someone else, they’ll try it, despite the fact it might induce gagging. One of her memorable routines is “A Conversation With God,” in which she attempts to call heaven to ask why fleas exist. That routine landed her a spot on the late Johnny Carson’s guest couch; she was the first female waved over by Johnny in the show’s history.

Like many comedians, Ellen‘s gift of laughter is based on a life that was filled with tragic events. She’s shared those stories over the years, but without losing the ability to laugh at herself — or at an audience member willing to share something amusing with the star herself.

With her genuine appreciation of life, and a healthy respect for the people who watch her, Ellen DeGeneres should be a comedic force for many years to come.
